Lessons for this age level involve games, exercises and hand-eye coordination activities to build your child’s tennis skills.
Every class will begin with running and stretching. Then, it will lead to tennis- based activities and games These activities are build upon the core concepts of a tennis swing such as low to high and ball control.
All toddler tennis classes are 60 minutes long. Lessons typically consist of dynamic stretching with a focus on core body movement and coordination. The students spend time learning tennis skills by playing hand-eye coordination games, running, and lots of smiles. There are also 2-3 water breaks during every lesson. Students will also be given awards reminding them the importance of working towards a goal.
Tennis lessons for toddlers are held in Huntington Beach or Aliso Viejo (Glendwood Community), where we set a private play area for them (indoor or outdoor). We follow QuickStart and Micro Tennis Methodologies in all our Toddler classes. The Quickstart Method aims to teach kids to play tennis and LOVE the game. Traditionally, tennis was known as a difficult game to learn at an early age. The actual tennis balls are heavy and bounce too hig, the court is too large, and the rackets are big for toddlers.
Now, with Quickstart method, we set smaller courts (indoor or outdoor), use slower balls, and appropriate rackets for kids.Together with fun exercises, and games, we develop our toddlers' tennis strategy and tactics at a very young age. But, most importantly, we have FUN all together while learning and improving hand-eye coordination, footwork, speed, ability to use both hands, etc. These are some games that we play together during our toddler lessons:
Some of our toddler tennis exercices
1. Spider Web : Toddlers' goal is to catch each other. Once you are caught, you become a part of the web, hold hands with other toddlers in the web, and try to catch free toddlers. This game makes toddler run, develop, and improve footwork, while it develops teamwork strategies.
2. Jump with the Ball: We throw a tennis ball into the air. As soon as it bounces, toddlers start jumping. Everytime the ball bounces, toddlers jump. With this game, toddlers will learn how the tennis ball moves.
3. Catch & Throw: Our toddlers will throw the tennis ball to each other or to a wall and try to catch it. Toddlers usually have more difficulty in catching the balls. It is important to develop this skill. We will help them to use their left and right hands during the same exercise. For instance, they will throw the ball with their right hand and then catch it with their left hand and vice versa.
4. Ice Hockey: Toddlers will push the ball on the ground with their rackets. They will pass left or right of the cones, and try to push the ball straight on the baseline
